Here it\u2019s moonshine. In Ireland, it\u2019s poit\u00edn\u2014pronounced<em> puh-cheen<\/em>. In 1661 Ireland banned the production of poit\u00edn and sent it underground. An excellent Dublin spot called, simply,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/bar1661.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bar 1661<\/a> <\/strong>honors that momentous year and offers an array of poit\u00edns (now legalized), Irish whiskeys, and arguably the city\u2019s most finely crafted cocktails. Continue your exploration of Irish whiskey culture in the Liberties neighborhood, with tours at<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/teelingdistillery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Teeling Whiskey Distillery<\/a><\/strong>, which boasts both historic roots and a modern approach, and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/pearselyonsdistillery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pearse Lyons Distillery<\/a><\/strong>, housed in a deconsecrated eighteenth-century church. The center also offers two-hour walking tours, including the \u201cFootsteps of Leopold Bloom,\u201d on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings. Stepping back further in time, few volumes are as beloved as the ninth-century Book of Kells, with its four Gospels lavishly illustrated by Celtic monks. It\u2019s on display at<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trinity College<\/a><\/strong> in the heart of Dublin. That was the day hardworking rural families would gather around a table after Mass and enjoy meat and potatoes. The tradition carries on in homes and restaurants such as<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/bovinity.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bovinity<\/a><\/strong> (which offers the roast on Saturday as well), where you can choose from roast beef or a \u201csharing steak,\u201d along with enough carbohydrates to fuel you along Leopold Bloom\u2019s entire route. Or, on non-roast days, try<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebuckleycollection.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">F.X. Buckley Steakhouse<\/a><\/strong> on Pembroke Street, run by a team that helms both butcher shops and restaurants, and serves up a porterhouse with a perfect, crispy char. Curious about the Irish spin on barbecue?
