Born in Ohio and raised in Georgia, Carter discovered his passion for cooking during a family trip to Italy at age thirteen. He went on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America in 1999. His career began at the Ritz-Carlton Naples before moving to the Lowcountry, where he oversaw four restaurants at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff and helped earn the property a spot on <em>Bon App\u00e9tit<\/em>\u2019s \u201cTop Ten Foodie Destinations\u201d list in 2013.
