As such, it melts gradually and holds the drink\u2019s sweet-spot temperature\u2014and taste\u2014for longer. If bourbon is too warm, ethanol can dominate the nose and palate. If it\u2019s too cold, its flavor compounds become muted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there\u2019s the matter of dilution, which affects flavor in a more obvious way\u2014by watering the drink down. \u201cThe melted ice from a large cube won\u2019t dilute the whiskey too quickly,\u201d says Neal Simpson of <a href=\"https:\/\/barnettswhiskeyhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barnett\u2019s Whiskey House<\/a> in Waco, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dilution isn\u2019t always bad, but it, too, has a sweet spot. \u201cOver one large cube is the way to enjoy a single spirit in its purest form if you want to mellow out its sharper notes,\u201d says Lando Sprinkle of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luminosaavl.com\/red-ribbon-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Red Ribbon Society<\/a> speakeasy in Asheville. A bourbon over a large cube changes slowly over time, as the growing water content gradually unlocks different flavors. And the crowning aesthetic touch, according to both Himel and Simpson? Stamp the cube using a metal <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3SMRcOS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ice stamp<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3ThFFY0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stamping tray<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m a fan of square ice because it looks nicest in a glass,\u201d Himel says, \u201cand stamped, it\u2019s a real showstopper.\u201d<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Garden &amp; Gun<em>&nbsp;has affiliate partnerships and may receive a portion of sales when a reader clicks to buy a product.
